SMOG test for Literacy (Reading) Level

  1. Count off 10 consecutive sentences at the beginning, middle, and end of the text.
  2. Count the number of words with 3 or more syllables in the 30-sentence sample.
  3. Compare the answer in #2 to the reading grade level chart.

According to the SMOG conversion chart the count of 25 is in the mid range of 21-30 for the 8th grade reading level.
